Terms and conditions applicable to South African hunting safaris with Royal Karoo Safaris.

General Conditions:

  • All animals are subject to availability – e.g. the effect of drought, breeding season etc.

  • All prices are subject to change unless officially quoted for and confirmed.

  • The day you are picked up in Port Elizabeth (PE) and the day you are returned to Port Elizabeth are not counted as safari days.

  • Client takes full responsibility for damage done to a trophy by using large calibre rifles. Note that light calibres are available in camp for rental.

  • Skinning of certain species for mounting will cost extra, for example, small mammals and birds, e.g. monkey $50 skinning fee for a full body mount skin. Please enquire.

  • Quills, feathers, artefacts, rocks, twigs, seed etc. are biological, historically and ecologically important to the environment and some are protected under South African heritage laws. There is a charge for any items which are allowed to be taken. Fossils, etchings and some other items are by law not allowed to be taken. Remember that ALL items are subject to export permits.

  • Minimum safari is usually 5 days, which will be 6 nights with Royal Karoo Safaris. Most hunts only require 4-6 hunting days to fill an average safari bag. Shorter hunts may be considered.

  • All dipping, packing, transportation and shipping costs of trophies are the client’s responsibility after the safari.

  • Royal Karoo Safaris has sourced and recommends a taxidermist through experience in the industry. However, once the trophies leave the Royal Karoo Safaris properties, the processing and delivery of the trophies is solely between the client and taxidermist. Should a different taxidermist be required other than the recommended, please let us know before the safari so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

  • No refunds are made for late arrivals or early departures.

  • Trophy fees are payable at completion of the safari. Wounded and/or lost animals and any animal shot, whether incidental or accidental must be paid for in full. Penalties on top of the animals fees may apply if a wrong animal is shot e.g. female instead of a male, so we ask hunters to be very careful.

 

  • Daily rates include:

    • Port Elizabeth (PE) airport transfers, transportation while hunting, services of a Professional Hunter, trackers, skinners, ranch safari staff, accommodation, laundry, meals alcohol (sundowners and table wine) and beverages in moderation (Some alcohol and speciality foods are subject to availability. Please inquire with special requests). Speciality foods and drinks are not included in the daily rates. (But we will get items for you – so if you want such we need these specifics well in advance of your arrival due to our remote location.)

  • Payment ONLY with VISA or MASTERCARD credit cards. No other credit cards are accepted.

    • Foreign Bank transfer fees, fees to use your credit cards overseas and currency conversion fees are the client’s responsibility.

    • South African Rand rates will be calculated according to the rate on day of payment as determined by management, using the currency buying rate as published by BIDVEST Bank on the day.

    • Credit Card fee up to 5% is applicable.

  • Any animal or bird wounded and lost at the time your safari ends or shot and NOT exported from South Africa is subject to VAT, Value Added Tax of 15%, added onto the trophy/cull fees. (This is South African law). Any animal not exported out of South Africa 15% VAT must be charged onto the animal fees, and onto any trophy’s fees. Exporting even just one part or some of the animals you hunt will mean no VAT tax needs to be charged.

  • All services, other than exportable trophies, provided by Royal Karoo Safaris will attract 15% VAT.

  • PRICES EXCLUDE

    • Transport Costs to and from South Africa and airport taxes

    • International phone calls / faxes

    • Insurance and medical expenses of any kind

    • Taxidermy fees and dipping, mounting and shipping of trophies

    • Import permits and fees required by countries other than South Africa

    • Sightseeing excursions

    • Gratuities to camp/lodge staff and PH’s (10-15% recommended)

    • Meat is not included in the game animal’s price. Meat belongs to Royal Karoo Safaris or the landowner. Meat may not be exported from the country of South Africa.

    • Special conditions apply in respect of children, please enquire.

    • Any activities not offered by Royal Karoo Safaris.

  • Proof of paid for air tickets is required to lock in a booked date. Air tickets must be done preferably 6-8 months before your safari date, and sent to Royal Karoo Safaris, or if you have booked within a few months of your safari you may still get your flights booked and come on your safari booked dates.

  • A non-refundable, but date transferable deposit of $1000 is required to confirm the booking date.

  • Should the dates be postponed, an inflationary increase will apply to any quotation that has been accepted.

  • In the case of death or disability and the payment has been made, no more than a $1000 cancellation fee will be charged, the balance refunded.

  • Bookings for game not found on Royal Karoo Safaris property (Big Five) a 50% deposit is required when the booking is made.

  • Safety

    • Your safety and those employed by Royal Karoo Safaris is of utmost concern. As such, please adhere to the following basic safety rules:

    • No alcohol and hunting will be mixed, once an alcoholic drink is opened, we call it a day.

    • We do not hunt with a bullet in the breach, or rely on the safety – only load when ready to shoot.

    • Take cognisance of people around you and always treat a firearm as loaded.

    • Firearms will be fired on the range before hunting to assess accuracy.
